Set up a non-political commission

Anti-quota students want a non-political commission to be set up to look into how effective the reservation policy has been in the past. A doctor of MAMC asked “Why are they against setting up a commission and rigidly so? We have the right to know. Why are they scared of making the information public….How has the figure of 27% been arrived at? Is it just so that the upper limit of 50% is followed and the maximum benefit goes out? Or is there any basis to it with regards to the population of the OBCs?”

This demand of the students is logical. India has been implementing policy of reservation for last 55 plus years. There have been different perception of different sections of the society on the need of such policy and its continuance for indefite period. From every standard of good governance it is now time to review this policy for its effectiveness and whether it should be continued or replaced by better and more effective alternatives. But love of the politicians for this vote-bank tool is creating all problems. Abandoning this policy will mean taking away one of the most ill-used political tool from politicians.

I am really surprised why government is not agreeing to students's demand for appointing a non-political commission to review reservation policy. First PM appointed a group of ministers who gave a useless tuglaqi suggestion to increase seats. Then PM is now talking of constituting some more committes. The Preseident has also given such a hint to students when they met him yesterday. Why such love for reservation?
